Vintage Silver Casserole Use Ideas & Share the Love Wednesday Link Party # 59

Welcome back to Share the Love Wednesday! This is a link party where you can share whatever you have a passion for and blog about. It's a great way to find new blogs and find some new followers for your own blog as well.

I have a new use for those vintage silver casserole dishes you see in thrift shops to share today. When I first bought this piece I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with it. I had just started to enjoy vintage silver and the price was right. Before I knew it, I found lots of ways to use it around my home.

Using it as a base for a large glass candle holder is how I've been using it lately. It sits in my family room and I like the contrast of the silver against the matte gray painted table.

I have been trying to clear out the clutter in my decor, limiting tabletops to just three or four decorative items at most. Keep in mind that around the holidays, this rule does not apply! Just a small tray of favorite catalogs and magazines (hello Flea Market Style!) and the candle are my choices for this table.

The glass candle holder fits right in the base of this casserole. Check out the tarnish on the bottom. It doesn't bother me a bit! I like the patina and the depth it adds to the carvings on the cute little chubby legs and the rim.

Looking for some last-minute Easter table setting ideas? Here's a few of my favorites from around the web. Gather your silver, crystal and a pretty napkin along with some wheat grass from the grocery or nursery for this idea. The pale pink-beige color of those eggs is so pretty.

If you'd like to add a touch of whimsy to your table, try this simple bunny shaped napkin folding idea. Plain white or pastel napkins would work well.

If you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can entertain outdoors, here's some gorgeous inspiration. I could actually see some of these ideas used for other occasions as well. Birthday parties, baby showers could make use of the color palettes here. A few yards of fabric ripped in strips and tied to the chairs make this table a standout. I bet they're even prettier blowing in a mild breeze!

Silver Tray Centerpiece for Spring {At Last}

I went to the flea market last weekend with a list. Actually, this list is one I continue to refer to in antique and thrift stores as well. One of the things on the list was a large rectangular silver plate platter with handles and feet. The handles and feet part were important to me, I like the detail they offer. 

 

I have seen big trays before but either the form wasn't what I was looking for, they were missing the details I was looking for or they were priced too high. The luck of the flea market was with me as I did find a tray at a great price.

As I was deciding where to use it I brought out all my other trays and set them aside. I kind of liked that stacked and layered look! The trays used together were much more interesting for a centerpiece than the single tray alone. Not to mention that it's nice to free up the cabinet I was storing them in!

I added some blue eggs I had found at Home Goods last year and some dried moss from Michaels. I had some green moss too, but I liked the way that the gray moss lets the eggs be the star; acting as a neutral backdrop between the bright eggs and shiny silver trays.

 

Best of all, the stacked trays can work with lots of seasonal elements, candy or trinkets to change it up throughout the year.

The newest addition to my silver collection has found its spring home--front and center on the dining table all dressed up for spring.

Now I can concentrate on the other items on my "to find" list. Crystal chandeliers, champagne coolers benches and armoires are some of the items that always catch my eye. And vintage luggage. Can you ever have too many pieces of vintage luggage? 

When I initially began shopping at flea markets and antique shops I was always buying smaller things. Now I find myself confident enough in my style to look for the larger pieces. I also have the knowledge to know a good price when I see it and concentrate on quality as well. 

I'm so glad the weather is warming up--all the better for flea market season! What items are on your list? Do share!

Vintage Valentine Candy Box {Love}

At the last minute I gathered a few of my vintage Valentine candy boxes in a rusty crusty wire basket to make a centerpiece for my table. All the prettiness without the calories... they're all empty of course.

 

I love the bright red on my pale table. I don't use red in my decor so it's a pleasure to bring it out for different holidays with little accessories here and there.

 

Although I confess, this white box is my favorite. Maybe because it's so unique amongst all the red and pink.

Mixed, not Matched Centerpiece {Use What You Have}

Mixed metals, two that are crystal... these candlesticks come from here, there and everywhere. 

I started with two of my favorite elements, crystal and silver. The crystal pair of candlestick were a wedding  gift, the silver set was my moms.

Four didn't cut it; too matchy matchy. I decided a trip to the thrift store was in order to see what I could find to add to the bunch. I found these brass beauties for $2 for the set, and the large faux bronze single stick for the same price.

Four dollars and some family heirlooms later, I've got a centerpiece for my dining table. With the help of some Crate and Barrel unscented candles of course. Something old, something new, something thrifted... works for me!

Make a Christmas Centerpiece with Vintage Ornaments

I made a new centerpiece for my holiday table this year. It's really easy, and a great way to enjoy my vintage Christmas ornament collection close up.

I started with a glass hurricane (any glass vessel will do) and then began to place ornaments in bit by bit. I put the prettiest ornaments along the outside edges, holding them in place with more ornaments. I varied the sizes and layered in a modern silver garland to fill in the tiniest of spaces.

I filled it to the rim... and then some!

I added a pretty cut glass tray underneath it.

And here is my centerpiece! Crazy easy, right?
