Posh & Portable Decorating {Book Inspiration}

Two great ideas from this fun book, Living in a Nutshell: Posh and Portable Decorating by Janet Lee.

I love the charcoal walls with similarly painted frames. Instant art! I also like how they mixed ornate frames with those that are more plain and also damaged frame pieces.

I've seen this idea with gold, silver or white frames, but never all in the same color as the wall; it's kind of cool!




This next idea I could certainly use as well. A folding screen turned into a shoe rack. I have tons of shoes and it would be nice to keep them all handy, but hidden.

Organizing Ribbon {The Perfect Craft Room Idea}

Ribbon is the perfect final addition to your packages, craft projects and let's face it.. it's just plain beautiful. Whether sitting in piles on the table...

Resting in a pretty vintage silver candy dish...

or spilling out of a vintage glass jar used as a dispenser,

 you can never have enough ribbon. Well, you can, but just try to stay away from those sale bins at Michael's when a pretty spool of peacock blue satin ribbon is calling your name for just 50 cents.

Stopping in at a local florist last weekend, I saw this wall of ribbon and couldn't resist asking the owner if I could snap a few pictures with my camera phone. Check out the beautiful shelving!

The shop owner's father made the shelves for her specifically to hold lots of ribbon. The beauty, as always, is in the details. This pretty little trim strip on the edge of each shelf really makes this idea special.  The shelf is crafted so that it's as deep as her largest roll and the trim is just a bit larger than the shelf so that it creates a bit of a rim to keep the ribbon from falling off the edge. This shelf, on a smaller scale of course, would be perfect for the studio or craft room.

A Bar.... in an Armoire!

Armoire: {noun} a tall piece of furniture that usually has two doors and that is used to store things (such as clothes). So it goes according to Merriam-Webster. An armoire is most definitely a fabulous piece of furniture. Stately, large and worthy of attention... my attention, it seems. 

Lately I have been eyeing armoires in resale & antique shops. I could use it to store clothes. I could also use it to store my collection of dishes and vintage silver. Or, it could be turned into a bar... yes... a bar in an armoire.

Do I need a bar? No.... I don't have a stock of liquor, nor do I entertain as much as I might like these days. But this.... this piece is so pretty. I can picture my collection of Waterford crystal, bits of vintage silver and pretty bottles lined up; I could fill in with French lemonade and Perrier!. I like the mirror behind the glassware as well; it adds an extra boost to the shimmer of fancy glass and crystal.

I could use one in the bedroom. What girl couldn't use an extra spot to store her favorite sweaters, handbags and shoes? This next one is sweet too.... glass doors to show off all the pretties inside. I would have to be very neat to truly enjoy its beauty.

This one works as extra storage in the kitchen. I don't have a lot of wall space in my kitchen and dining area, so it's not really practical. in my current house.

The mirrored panels are so pretty on this one. This would look beautiful and function in any room of the home.

This one below holds all the treasures a little girl could want! They don't get much curvier than this.

I'm on the lookout for an armoire.... something curvy, old and sturdy would be nice. I'll know it when I see it!

HomeGoods Wall Art turned Jewelry Tree {Sparkles}

I have rearranged all my costume jewelry to a spot where I see it each day--not far from the mirror where I put on my makeup. I've been wearing pieces I haven't worn in years, simply because it's out in full view.

I've been seeing metal wall art in the shape of trees and branches everywhere, and I got the idea to re-purpose one to display my jewelry. I  took my time to find just the right one and I must admit it was the rhinestone leaves that made me choose this tree. It is from HomeGoods of course!

I'll show you some other bits in this little dressing area. The tiered tray was also a HomeGoods purchase from a few years ago.It has an eyelet look edge that is perfect for holding earrings. The little trays hold pins and miscellaneous jewelry.

This little necklace display piece is from a store called Whimsy in Morris, IL. I picked it up on my trip to the French Hens Market last year. 

These two necklaces are costume jewelry from a thrift shop. I get just as much joy out of looking at them as I do from wearing them!  The candlestick below was a Goodwill find. It seems perfect for this space.

The piece of furniture I picked up several years ago from the Grayslake Antique Market. The booth is called Rhubarb Reign. They always have beautiful things at very fair prices. It's hard to leave their booth without a purchase! I love all the cubbies and drawers for storage. The cubbies hold the fun stuff: more jewelry, recently worn scarves and belts, small purses, towels, makeup, etc... and the drawers hold the not so fun stuff: cleaning supplies, lonely socks, items to mend, etc...

It was lots of fun dressing up this area. I've had the little drawer unit for a year or two and I'm so glad I've finally topped it off with this wall art turned jewelry tree!

I can't resist all that pretty bling in the morning! Quite perfect for a girl who loves anything that sparkles, don't you think?
